Highlights
We begin our tour arriving into Lisbon, the historic capital city of the country, for a 2-night stay. The city has a wealth of interesting buildings dating back to the occupation by the Romans, Moors and Spanish. From here we travel north west to the port of Nazare on the Atlantic coast, where we stay for 2 nights, before continuing further north through rolling countryside to the historic town of Averio. From this picturesque and lovely hilly town, we explore the beautiful Douro Valley.

Spring is a lovely time to visit Portugal. We hope for clear skies and warm weather, although we recommend bringing a sweatshirt, a light jacket & brolly!

Sightseeing
We spend 3 nights in Oporto, “the capital of the north”.
The centre of Oporto is designated a World Heritage Site with its medieval quayside, steep cobbled lanes and old wine warehouses.
There will be ample opportunity to sample the excellent regional food and wines of Portugal, which never fail to impress, and the world-famous port produced around Oporto.
Agriculture
Agriculture and horticulture are very important aspects of the Portuguese economy, and the northern region boasts some beautiful fertile valleys.
The agriculture and crop production are varied and include rice, tomatoes, potatoes, fruit and of course grapes for the wine industry. Livestock farming is also very important in some regions.
We visit interesting and unique establishments which give an overview of agriculture and also provide an understanding and insight into rural life in the country.
It is difficult to find words adequate to express our thanks
for the wonderful tour we have just experienced. It is great to go to another country and meet and talk to the native people to get a “feel” of their lifestyle and problems. The agricultural, sightseeing visits, and itinerary were so well organised. First class hotels,
a superb group of people, and weather to help, we doubt the tour could have been better.
